Chief Innovation Officer of FTL, Dr Amanda Parkes presented Future Tech Lab’s insight and perspective on how we can re-invent fashion’s production cycle by injecting innovative technologies, under the theme “Closing the Loop”, calling the industry and consumers to adopt a more ethical and sustainable approach on the annual Fashion Summit 2018 in Hong Kong.
The Summit took place on the 6-7 September for the second time after making its successful debut last year. This year’s theme was ”Fashion Summit - Circular Economy” discussing tomorrow’s sustainability solutions for fashion. The sustainable development was addressed from the perspectives of innovation, manufacturing, design and branding as well as consumer initiatives. The first day of the event included the results of a Global Sustainable Consumption survey and panels discussions on different topics such as sustainable fashion evolution, financing and blockchain technology, how re-industrialization benefits Hong Kong fashion etc. The second day was given over to the annual Innovation and Technology Symposium organized by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA). This part was dedicated to the ‘re-imagining of the industry': presenting inspiring ideas and new technologies about sustainability for the fashion industry.
